Liposuction is the surgical technique for removing excess fatty deposits around the body by suction and liposculpture is the redistribution of fat to soften areas or recontour a deficit. It is an effective technique for removing fat that seems impossible to shift with exercise and diet. It works best for areas of disproportion where the overlying skin quality is of good tone. It is commonly used in conjunction with other body contouring procedures (listed below).
Conventionally, liposuction is the removal of fat by suction. It is done via small incisions to access the affected area. Liposculpture also uses similar equipment but rather than suctioning all fat out of an area, some of it can be redistributed as necessary to provide desired contour which restores body proportions.
Both techniques are performed under ‘tumescence’ whereby the area to be addressed is infused with a wetting solution that contains local anaesthetic. This aids fat removal, pain relief, and minimises bruising.
